Many people realise now that rather than expecting to be “fixed” by someone else they are responsible for their own health and wellbeing. The modalities I use help you discover your own resources and power to change and design your own life. These modalities are:
NLP, Neuro Linguistic Programming is the study of human excellence and success. It provides amazingly simple and powerful methods for changing the way you think, feel, behave, and learn so that you consistently achieve the results you want in your personal and professional life.
Neuro refers to the neurological system and the brain which connect the body organs, immune system, bones, etc.; and to how we use our minds, bodies, and 5 senses (see, hear, feel, smell, taste) to translate our experience into thought processes.
Linguistic refers to the way we use language to make sense of our experience and communicate it to ourselves and others. Through our 5 senses we take in information from the world, code and store it internally in our own unique way. These internal codes, or internal representations, shape our mental worlds.
Programming refers to the way we code our experience. Our thinking styles are like ‘software’ of the brain. This includes our thoughts, feelings, emotions, behaviours, responses, skills, beliefs, and personality. Changing, or upgrading, this ‘mental software’ allows us to let go of behaviours and responses that no longer work for us, and achieve the goals we want now. Therefore, the results we achieve in our life are the consequence of our personal programmes.
NLP is now used in so many areas that you have most likely heard of it under other names – Anthony Robbins inspirational trainings, accelerated learning in education, photographic memory, succeeding in sport and sales, curing physical misalignments, etc. NLP was developed in the 1970s by Richard Bandler, a mathematician, and John Grinder, a professor of linguistics. They studied and modelled the work of people who achieved extraordinary success in the area of human potential, such as Milton Erickson, a psychotherapist and hypnotherapist, and Virginia Satir, the “grandmother” of family therapy.
What distinguishes NLP from some traditional modalities of psychotherapy and counselling is the solution focused approach. In NLP rather than focusing on “what went wrong” (problem) we direct a client’s attention to “what would you like to happen now?” (solution).
Learning to understand the natural language of the brain and the structure of our life experience, allows us more flexibility and conscious choice in changing and designing happier lives. In this way NLP is a powerful and practical approach to personal change.
Most of our automatic behaviours and responses run at the unconscious level, outside our conscious awareness. Therefore, some of the most powerful changes need to take place at the level of unconscious mind.
Hypnotherapy is a widely accepted and researched method of enabling people to make changes in their health, personal development, and relationships. It is a process of communicating with our own or someone else’s unconscious mind, assisted by having the person enter a relaxed state. It allows us to connect with the deepest programming within our minds and bodies. When body relaxes and mind quiets, a natural rebalancing function of the body-mind system occurs. Body knows how to heal automatically.
Huna is the Hawaiian tradition of shamanism, an ancient way of living in harmony, respect and oneness with all life forms. It implies working with the powers of the mind and the forces of nature. Huna techniques help release physical, emotional, and mental stress, change limiting beliefs, create harmony and improve relationships.
The Healing Tao is the natural way of inner health and healing. As with other shamanic traditions, it serves to empower oneself, affirming spiritual autonomy and self-mastery. Exercises are taught to improve and develop the physical body and spirit as well as transform negative emotions into positive ones. The Universal Tao System promotes health, happiness and fulfilment.
Chi Kung is the ancient Chinese health system, the basis of Tai Chi, Kung Fu and acupuncture. Research shows that Chi Kung breathing, movement and mediation techniques promote health, prolong life and assist healing, including healing illnesses which do not respond to other treatments. The main function of these exercises is to collect and exchange Chi between human beings and nature. With daily practice it also helps to strengthen body, promote creativity, develop intellect, and improve quality of life.
